Hi All…I haven’t had a chance to post in here yet but I want to tell my story and hope it’s not too long. I found out I was DC when I was 33, almost 7 years ago. It was a complete shock. After finding out I tested on Ancestry and was so surprised by the results (50% Scandinavian and 50% Jewish) that I bought another test through 23andMe because I thought there had been a mistake. Same results, just a little more specified. For 6+ years I have been on these sites with no match closer than a 4th cousin and absolutely no leads other than the donor was a medical student. This past year I met some fantastic people through the FB groups I joined and one of those people happened to have also been conceived in Kansas City and was able to shed some light on donor conception in KC in the mid-late 70’s. She directed me to this site letting me know that Matt had uploaded pictures of the graduating classes from KU Med Ctr and that those might help me in my search. At that point I didn’t even know that I could have been conceived at KU Med but my mom confirmed it and shortly after a search angel was busy helping me however we still could not find any info due to no close matches. In January of this year I received a message from Ancestry from a new cousin, a 2nd cousin! This was the break we had been looking for, within in 24 hours, and the help of the graduating class files Matt uploaded on this site, my search angel was able to identify my donor!! Unfortunately he passed away back in 2009 but I was able to connect with his sister and she has been such a blessing, so open to sharing family information and even having a relationship. I can’t thank Matt enough for having this site, and its resources, available to us and while I haven’t found any siblings yet I am keeping my fingers crossed one will show up in the future. I was conceived through KU Med in September of 1978 and my donor graduated in 1980 so probably looking for folks conceived anywhere from 1978-1980 and DNA would peg them as half Jewish. If anyone meets those specifications and haven’t yet tested on Ancestry and/or 23andMe please do so and don’t hesitate to message me directly!
Thanks for sharing!
