New documentary film preview Thank You For Coming is now available. Over the course of the film, director Sara Lamm tries to address the question: “What makes someone family?” Sara asks relatives near and far as she explores family in the context of her parent’s divorce, her mother’s death, her children’s’ lives, and learning at age 29 that she was conceived via sperm donor. Part genealogical detective story and part funny, bittersweet meditation on the heartbreak of loss and the hope of friendship, Thank You For Coming tells a story about nature, nurture, and one woman’s desire to connect with her roots. Here is a link to the film and a bit more info.
I had a chance to watch this the weekend before last and enjoyed it. In many ways Sara’s story was like mine, we were similar ages, our parents didn’t tell, etc. Just watching the process of the research and excitement to try to find the donor was quite exciting. I don’t want to spoil it, but if you’re DC and on the journey to find family through DNA, you’ll probably like it.
